Digital Plus scores at the new Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease.

Here at Digital Plus, we have recently completed our latest project for The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust after printing and overseeing the installation of hoardings surrounding the site of the high-profile new Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The former Leeds Rhinos star was diagnosed with MND in 2019, and since then, he’s raised millions of pounds, along with ex-Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield, to help others living with the disease. This includes fundraising for the state-of-the-art new £6.8million centre, which will be built at Seacroft Hospital.

The hoardings span 130 metres around the perimeter of the site. We managed the procurement and installation of the timber on the NHS Trust’s behalf, in addition to carrying out a site inspection and full survey to assess ground elevations across the site. This enabled us to create digital templates for the artwork, which could be designed in a completely seamless way, regardless of the different steps and levels in the hoarding.

We then produced and installed skirtings for the top and bottom of the hoardings and printed the striking graphics to create a seamless visual that flows with the natural contours of the site.

After considering various options, we opted to print directly onto a 3mm aluminium composite complete with an anti-graffiti finish, which is tough, durable and can be easily cleaned in the event of it being damaged. Crucially, the panels can also be updated as the project progresses.

We then installed it onto the hoardings over a four-day period against a backdrop of wintery dark nights and adverse weather.

In addition to displaying signage about health and safety and marking site entrances, the graphics also include high-definition images of Rob, information about the new centre, details of how to contribute to the fundraising appeal and facts about MND. This is all complemented by other key messages that The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Leeds Hospitals Charity were keen to promote.

Once complete, the new Rob Burrow Centre for MND will comprise of three primary areas in the building, an East and West Wing containing clinical spaces, and a central atrium designed as a community-focused area with reading and quiet spaces, as well as activity and dining areas.

Emma Quinn from The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “It looks great”, leading the job here, was our very own James Vickerman and Gareth Hartley, James had this to say “To be involved in such an important job not just for us but for our city was such an honour, the cause itself and the project as it evolves will change so many lives, it was such a privilege”.

Our head of projects, Gareth Hartley said, “as always, the job was not without its challenges, but I am over the moon with the production quality and installation professionalism on the project which is what we are renowned for, to have the opportunity on working on such an inspiring project in terms of its subject matter was a real privilege”

This latest project comes after we also printed a mammoth 1,000-metre site hoarding for The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s new Leeds Children’s Hospital, which will house the UK’s biggest single-site maternity centre, as well as a new adult hospital at Leeds General Infirmary.

We also have a longstanding relationship with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, spanning everything from large format waterproof posters and hospital signage through to banners to be displayed outside surgeries.

Ralph Thoresby High school learns about the benefits of Wall Shield after working with Digital Plus

The busiest area in a Leeds high school that more than 1,000 pupils and staff members pass through every day is now protected from a constant barrage of scuffs and scrapes thanks to Digital Plus’s innovative Wall Shield product.

The eight-metre-long corridor at Ralph Thoresby School in Holt Park is directly off the school’s main reception area and was constantly being redecorated and repaired due to the vast amount of passing footfall, as well as regular knocks from wayward school bags.

We immediately knew Wall Shield was the answer! We’ve designed the product to offer long-term surface protection and (as you might have guessed!) we can print bespoke graphics and branding on it to transform even the most mundane areas of buildings into visually striking and interesting throughfares.

As well as saving money on maintenance costs, Wall Shield is also seriously tough, fire rated, easy to clean and quick to install, which makes it a popular and obvious solution for high-traffic areas in all types of buildings.

We liaised closely with the school’s facilities management company, Mitie FM, before measuring up, carrying out a detailed risk assessment, agreeing access and installation timings and surveying pipe locations. We also had to create cut-outs on the Wall shield panels to accommodate wall sockets that could not be relocated.

Next, we agreed the visuals with the school’s headteacher, which our in-house design team created, fully utilising our 25 years’ worth of experience working with schools and colleges.

We completed the installation once school had finished for the day at 3.30pm. Because the product had already been accurately prepared and cut to size before it left our production facility, and due to it being very easy to work with, our team completed the transformation in less than two hours.

The result is a stunning corridor that’s now fun and colourful, as well as displaying the school’s house insignia to pupils, staff and visitors.

Headteacher, Will Carr, said: “Almost everyone who comes in or out of the school uses this corridor and often you can walk up and down it several times a day. As a result, the walls were always getting knocked and scraped which meant redecorating them on a regular basis.

“Wall Shield is a great solution to the problem. It’s clearly very robust and durable and with the graphics printed on it, it looks superb. Digital Plus handled the whole process brilliantly, from the initial survey through to the installation and everything in between and we’re very happy with the finished result.”

The two most important questions we ask clients when they are looking for a printed self-adhesive vinyl. Here at digital plus we pride ourselves on providing the correct solution and as marketing managers are these days handling social media, digital marketing, web, and TV as well as print we often find ourselves on hand to offer advice based upon a client brief or specification when it comes to large format graphics.

Where is it going is vital information as we produce many different vinyl’s, all which offer a unique solution these include:

Clear vinyl, used the majority of time for window graphics, printed to the face or in reverse.
The latter allowing the graphic to be installed from the inside with the artwork facing out or printed double sided for coverage both sides of the window. Clear vinyl also comes in a variety of transparencies, at Digital Plus we tend to use a clear, ultra-clear or optically clear, this is especially important when using a spot white in your graphic rather than a flood white as the vinyl showing can be various levels of transparency.

(You can see our artwork saving guidelines which show how to save your white layers here!)

Grey back vinyl, this is a very unique self-adhesive vinyl as it offers a block out layer within the material itself. This is a great solution to use for a whole host of graphics when you are wishing to cover an existing graphic or place the vinyl on something with a strong colour and you do not wish to see that colour coming through. Used in a whole host of environments we have seen this on floors, interior/exterior signs, display graphics in a whole host of business throughout the UK, product POS in retail outlets and much more!

White vinyl, very similar to the above but without the block out properties. Again we have seen this used for large leisure facilities floor vinyl’s, temporary window vinyl’s applied externally for museums and 2 day events, we also use this for many of our property vinyl’s who take advertising their commercial properties one step further than a ‘for sale sign’ by utilising the windows etc on the site itself! Although available in different grades it is also used on many projects where wall graphics are applied, whether that be in a reception area, showroom or meeting room. Large prints for a variety of industries left on the sheets so that clients themselves can remove when required is also a regular occurrence with clients knowing that price per print can often be more economical by holding certain regular messages in stock and calling off when required.

How long for, how long will your message be in situ? This is vital as all of the above vinyl’s are available in a variety of different adhesive levels, ideal for any situation.

Permanent

High tack

Removable

Re-positional

Permanent, does what it says on the tin! Placed in many different environments from windows to meeting rooms, used for floor graphics and product labels printed by the roll and cut so that the client can peel off when required. If you do not wish for the graphic to budge this is the one for you.

High tack, our advice to clients with high tack is be sure that is where you want it when you apply! This is an aggressive vinyl which we use when we are applying a graphic to a non smooth wall for example or wrapping a wooden substrate for a museum exhibition, once it’s on it is the most difficult to remove but a highly effective solution when required. We often find that a site survey through our Project Plus team can obtain the correct vinyl to use, an adhesion test can be performed at this point. To find out more about this service take a look here.

Removable, short term use and events where only a temporary solution is required is where we tend to see this product being used. Whether this be removable clear vinyl on windows or a removeable floor graphic on white vinyl, the adhesion is less aggressive than its permanent counterpart but still great for the right environment and has known to be down for months at times especially when teamed up with a laminate finish.

Re-positional, one of our favourite products at Digital Plus! This vinyl can be applied and removed multiple times with ease which is great if you are in retail and asking your staff to put up sale vinyl’s on your shop windows or you are creating an event at a hotel where no adhesive can be left behind after removal, available in white and clear we have sent samples of this vinyl to venues where they would never normally let a vinyl be used but welcomed the solution once tested and seen for themselves! We once had a customer asking how many times this type of vinyl could be applied the removed to a drywipe board for a corporate event, we stopped at 150 times!

As you can see, all we need to know are the answers to two simple questions, once we have this information we can advise on the material we should be printing your large format graphics too, samples of all the above are available upon request through your business development manager or account handler.

We look forward to handling your enquiry and hope you are all safe during this difficult time.

The power of POS: 10 expert Point of Sale display ideas you must try

Ever found yourself wondering what’s the point of Point of Sale (POS) displays?

There’s actually a lot of value in them. Tactics come, and tactics go, but POS displays are one of the tried-and-tested marketing tools that have stood the test of time.

Time and again, POS displays prove their worth within all sorts of bricks and mortar retail environments, from supermarkets and corner shops, to multi-level department stores. According to NPD Group, window displays alone influence 24% of purchases.

POS displays pull in potential customers, convert leads into buyers and boost upselling

Ever found yourself tempted to grab that bag of popcorn that’s looking incredibly appealing next to the supermarket conveyor belt (even though it wasn’t on your list)? Or perhaps you’ve just popped into that clothes store you always walk past because you spotted the 50% off sign in the front window? That’s the full force of POS in action, and these two examples are just the start.

POS displays vary from countertop boxes, posters and life-sized cut-outs and stands, to banner, entrance and end-of-aisle promotions

Some can be larger than life and really in your face, while others are there on a more subtle scale, tapping into consumers’ subconscious purchasing decisions. All of these options are about attracting consumer attention, driving sales and raising brand awareness.

So, we’ve briefly explained what POS displays are and what they look like. We’re now going to focus on what they look like in a bit more detail, because it’s our area of expertise.

10 Point of Sale display ideas everybody should think about…

We regularly work with retailers on creating POS displays that are more head-turning than the last. With that in mind, here are some creative Point of Sale display ideas for displays that stand out:

Use unique shapes to really make your displays look different and get noticed.

Make your displays literally pop withcolour (avoid monochrome designs, they’re a real no-no).

Establish a main focal point and then build the rest of your display around it.

Think about the psychological impact of your colour scheme on customers. I.e. red = energy and urgency; black = sleek, blue = trust-building, purple = soothing, and so on. (View the full colour wheel in our blog ‘The impact of colour choice in design’)

Encourage greater ‘eye appeal’ by incorporating interactive features, such as touch screens and QR codes.

Use lighting to draw attention to your POS displays and make them look more visually-appealing.

Don’t make your displays too busy, cluttered spaces can instantly put people off.

If possible, create displays that demo what you’re promoting or allow shoppers to try it out. This is one of the best ways to boost engagement and conversions.

Follow your brand guidelines by carrying them through into your POS displays to achieve more of professional, consistent finish.

Be crystal clear about what you’re communicating and what you want people to do once they’ve checked out your displays. Both your text and visuals need to make sense and be easy to understand at a glance.

POS displays are a whole new world in themselves; an exciting world that’s evolving by the day and creating incredibly powerful results in the meantime. The Point of Sale ideas we’ve listed above are some of the fundamentals that are always worth considering, especially if you do it through the eyes of your target audience.

We hope you’ve found the insight we’ve shared with you useful. We’re happy to provide you with more details or discuss your Point of Sale ideas, and how we can turn them from idea into reality, with you.

Have you visited the Tetley Leeds?

The Tetley Leeds building is a local success story. It was built in the 1930s and was previously the home of the Tetley Brewery headquarters before being closed in 2011.

In 2013, the building was given a new lease of life. In a project supported by the new owners, Carlsberg, and organisations including Leeds City Council and the Arts Council, the site was transformed into a centre for contemporary arts.

The Tetley building is now open to the public and houses gallery, studio and office space, alongside event rooms and a bar and kitchen. The centre hosts a range of events, from exhibitions and talks to conferences and weddings. In less than a decade, it’s become a part of the cultural fabric of Leeds.

From its opening, the Tetley has worked hard to reach a wide audience within the local area and beyond. The centre is now visited by 120,000 people each year.

Pulling in the crowds with clever branding

The Tetley building is unmistakable as a landmark, but you might not necessarily guess it’s an arts centre from the outside. The centre uses eye-catching branding and signposting to tell visitors and passers-by about everything it has to offer.

We recently produced this bright printed graphic for a disused gateway. The building is surrounded by a large, walled car park, meaning it’s only accessible from a few main entrances.

This old gate no longer served a purpose and needed securely blocking up. Instead of leaving it vacant, the Tetley wanted to use it to display a large graphic. We suggested printing direct to aluminium panels, then drilling them into place.

This secured the gateway and provided a billboard-sized area to showcase their branding. The bright red design brightens up the otherwise dull space and tells people exactly which way to go to reach the gallery. It’s a really simple, yet practical, piece of visual communication.

We regularly create pop-up display stands for businesses here at Digital Plus, and have an in-depth knowledge of the best materials for the job. As such, we’re now Zest’s primary partner.

Hayley Smith, Sales & Marketing Manager, Zest Mixology

When you’re in the events industry, meeting deadlines is an absolute must and it’s important suppliers can work to schedule. If this doesn’t happen, it can reflect badly on your business…

We’ve been working with Zest since October 2018 and have developed a streamlined process for delivering quality, every time. It’s simple, but highly effective.

It goes like this:

The design is formulated by Zest or their client.

We advise on details, such as file type and materials, where required.

Zest drop off the bar panels.

We print the vinyls and mount them to the panels.

And off they go to the event!

Making your event printing hassle-free

When printing to a client’s own materials, sustaining quality is always our priority. We also make sure that we advise on the best materials and methods wherever possible, developing an almost second nature understanding of what’s required.

For businesses like Zest, it makes sense to partner with one supplier. It ensures consistency and means nothing’s left to chance. Zest know that three working days is enough time for us to turn around their orders, and they know we’ve done it quicker when required!

We provide branded panels a few times a month now. It’s great knowing we’re adding to Zest’s customer experience with high quality print. We’re also on hand to provide new ideas and help them create fantastic solutions for getting their clients’ brands seen.

For businesses who regularly change their signage or display messages, the amount of waste produced can be a concern. There will be the occasional sign or banner which can be re-used, but for the most part, we have to throw away out-of-date print.

This waste is something many businesses want to try and combat, wherever possible. Limiting our impact on the environment is a concern for everyone, but it’s particularly relevant if your business has corporate responsibility targets to meet.

Introducing bubble board… the eco-friendly signage material

In a move to offer more sustainable signage products, we’ve acquired a brand new substrate. Bubble board is a recyclable non-PVC printable board material made of polypropylene. It’s weatherproof and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Traditionally, it’s less common to create signage from environmentally friendly materials (like wood, paper and card). These materials offer lower durability than plastics making them unsuitable for many uses, particularly outdoors. But bubble board offers a unique solution to this dilemma.

The material works just like most PVC panel and plastic foam boards. We can print directly onto bubble board (on both sides) and it can be cut and drilled. It’s also foldable, water resistant and lightweight, making it easy to carry, store and display.

The affordable, safe and flexible choice

Many retailers and other large organisations have already made the switch to bubble board in an effort to go greener while keeping printing costs down.

Here are the benefits at a glance:

Polypropylene material that’s 100% recyclable

Can be printed onto directly (double-sided if required)

Made including some recycled materials

Available with Fire Retardant additive (to meet health & safety requirements)

Water resistant

Suitable to outdoor and indoor use

Lightweight and simple to install

Cellular structure prevents chips and bends

Strong and rigid – can be cut and drilled

We’re really excited about this product as it’s suited to so many different uses. From wayfinding and health & safety signs, right through to displays boards, banners and outdoor signage, bubble board offers an eco-friendly alternative in all these areas.

Your trade show display is the main thing that’ll get your business noticed by your target audience at events. The right design helps set you apart from the competition and reach new customers, but this is only possible with careful planning and creative thinking.

Whether your business attends 1 or 100 trade shows a year, you want to make sure you create the best possible impression at each one. Otherwise, what’s the point in attending?

To help you prepare for your next trade show, we’ve pulled together some important factors to think about when planning your display. Take a look…

1. Keep it on brand

It might sound obvious, but don’t be tempted to stray too far off-brand when exhibiting at a trade show. You might want to play around with a theme or create a really bold, eye-catching design, but make sure you do this within the parameters of your branding.

If you create an unrecognisable display, you risk not being noticed by customers or prospects, who are already aware of your products and services. Besides, trade shows are all about getting your name and logo seen by as many people as possible, so keep your branding clear and consistent.

2. Be bold, bright and colourful

With so many brands competing for attention, colourful displays are a must for attracting attention. Pop-ups, graphic panels and bespoke modular stands can be adapted to whatever shape, size or colour you require, so don’t hold back! Make them bright, eye-catching and interesting to look at. Avoid simply using plain text and weave in some graphical or image elements to really bring your designs to life.

3. Go interactive

Attracting enough attention from passers-by and persuading them to stick around can be tricky at trade shows, particularly when there’s so much else going on all around them. Creating an interactive display is one way to turn heads and generate a buzz around your stand or booth.

It could be a game, puzzle, prize draw or feedback box – whatever the idea, printed visuals will make it a whole lot more engaging. This spin to win wheel we created for Student Shopping Night at Meadowhall went down a storm with the students, who won all sorts of exciting prizes.

4. Include a feature

Incorporating a feature that’s unique to your brand, products or services is one simple way to get remembered by your target audience. Make sure the feature is relevant to your services, will generate interest and isn’t a standard idea though.

For instance, we recently completed this branded bike for pizza oven manufacturer, DeliVita, by adding graphic panels to the bike’s trailer. Displayed against the backdrop of these pull-up banners, the bike created a unique trade show centrepiece that attracted lots of attention from hungry prospects!

Have you checked out their ?ovens? Wow! pic.twitter.com/R391kAqN1f

— Digital Plus Ltd (@digiplus) April 6, 2018

5. Lay it all out

If you have quite a large trade show stand, it’s important to think about the layout. Do you want different areas for hosting multiple prospects? Would you like a demonstration zone? Maybe you need a place where private sales conversations can take place?

Dividing up your space using graphics panels allows you to achieve your desired layout while also maximising your area. Each section you create can be printed with branded visuals and text, helping to get your messages seen from every angle.

6. Think reusable

Do you regularly attend trade shows? Perhaps your company hosts events too? If so, it’s worth thinking about reusable branding to save you time and money down the line.

Nowadays, branding can be printed on to reusable materials like acrylic, PVC or vinyl, which can easily be packed up and saved for another day. If you are reusing materials, you need to be mindful of your messaging, as you don’t want to include something like the venue or event name that leaves your design out-of-date.

7. Takeaways

Giving your prospects something to take away with them is a no-brainer – and not just because we all love a freebie! Printed takeaways give your prospects a point of reference and can even help prompt an enquiry once they’re back in the office.

Business cards, brochures, stickers and merchandise are all easy ways to get your branding in the hands of attendees. And while it might seem an ‘old school’ approach, it doesn’t have to be! Opt for a sleek design that looks fantastic in print to make a lasting impression.

Display graphics are an extremely useful tool in retail, allowing brands to guide their customers towards their latest offers and advertisements. Printed displays can come in any shape or design imaginable, making them a winning tool for branding purposes too.

We regularly help our clients reach their customers, both instore and out on location, by creating custom-built graphic displays. Whatever the concept, we help them showcase their messages and shout about their offers.

Usually comprised of a series of foam or PVC panels, these displays are easy to package and move, meaning they can be reused. To give you an idea of the variety of creative ideas that can be achieved using display graphics, here are a few of our recent projects:

Pizza delivery bike and backdrop for DeliVita

We recently created panels for a luxury promotional delivery bike for Yorkshire pizza oven creators, DeliVita. What better way to convince someone of the benefits of having their very own home pizza oven than by serving them delicious wood-fired pizza from a bike?!

Teamed with these smart pop-up backdrops explaining all the details, DeliVita can now take this set up to festivals and events up-and-down the country.

Leeds College of Art end of year show

To advertise its end of year summer show, the Leeds College of Art created a large design for its front entrance. Working almost like a rectangular, four-sided billboard, the mint green structure was eye-catching and unique.

We printed the students’ designs on smart, glossy panels and installed the temporary display graphics on the pavement outside the main campus. Simple, but highly effective!

Student shopping night display boards for Meadowhall

We created this series of branded display panels for a UNiDAYS event that was recently held at Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield. The project included a huge welcome panel, plus an interactive spin-to-win display.

Although these graphics were incredibly quick and simple to produce, they formed a bright and professional backdrop for the event. Projects such as this one just go to show how easy it is to take your event up a gear using cost-effective printed graphics!

Check out this idea. Read more >

The post How interactive wall graphics could improve your internal communications appeared first on Digital Plus.

The average British worker receives 121 emails per day and spends 28% of their working week reading and replying to them. While emails are essential to most roles, cutting back on them could help us save precious minutes each day.

Every business occasionally has news it needs to share with the whole company, but not every piece of information is always worthy of an email.

Creating an internal communications wall or board is the easy way to bypass unnecessary office emails. And it can help you to brighten up a dead space in the process!

Dry wipe, magnetic boards and walls enable you to write, draw and pin all of your internal messages where they can be seen by everybody. Not only that, but creating a space that everyone can share is a great way to improve internal communications.

Use your board to:

Update the team on important news or events

Share achievements and good news

Facilitate meetings and ‘stand ups’

Add photos, notes and personal messages

Share welcome and greetings messages

Track success and create leader boards
